Carmela is the first kinesiologist hired to work in Primary Healthcare in the province of BC.
Originally from Vancouver Island, Carmela received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Victoria in 2017. She worked as a Kinesiologist in Nanaimo for several years and gained expertise in many facets of Kinesiology, such as clinical populations, high-performance athletic training, chronic pain, movement literacy and injury prevention.

Carmela completed her Masters of Kinesiology with the University of British Columbia in 2022. Always intrigued by the idea of living rural, Carmela jumped at the opportunity to relocate to northern BC for a 4-month work-learn placement during her graduate education. Her graduate work contributed to the induction of Kinesiology in Primary Heath Care - further expanding the recognition and value of Kinesiology as an allied health profession. Carmela and her family reside in Terrace where she continues to offer work-placement mentorships to UBC students interested in practical, rural experiential learning in the field of Clinical Kinesiology. In her spare she trains as a weightlifter and ranks competitively at the provincial level.
